'One of Bosom Buddies' main goals is to make mastectomies and chemotherapy a rarity not the norm. Education is key and our work involves doing everything within our power to inform the youth of today. We are able to campaign and do the work we do through the generous support of companies like PURISKIN and BEAUTYSTABLE who help us in our quest to make opportunities become a reality.'
PAULINE GILES - Founder, Bosom Buddies UK
Bosom Buddies UK is a charity registered in England and Wales - No. 1162942.
Bosom Buddies UK was set up by Founder Pauline Giles in 2010, after overcoming a battle with Breast Cancer. The aim for Pauline is to inform, educate and potentially help save the lives of both women and men by raising awareness of how to look for the earliest signs of breast cancer.
With a tireless commitment to the Bosom Buddies mission of ‘Education to Save Lives’, Pauline Giles Founder of Bosom Buddies UK takes the Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Awareness programme into schools and appears at events all year round. Key topics that Pauline covers as a speaker, while sharing her inspirational journey through surviving cancer, include the use of paraben free cosmetics and products and the effects of alcohol abuse on health and well being.
A vital vehicle in her awareness campaign is the Bosom Buddies UK school programme, which targets Years 10 and 11 and provides an effective means of reaching 90% of the UK's 15 - 17 year old female population to dispel the myth of breast cancer as being only an older woman's disease. The girls are at a pivotal stage of becoming more self-conscious about their bodies and therefore not only a receptive target group but additionally a persuasive resource for spreading life-saving knowledge not just to mums but vitally also to dads as men do not tend to think any lumps they find might be cancerous. As such, despite representing a much lower percentage of breast cancer diagnosis (1%) male mortality rates for breastcancer are far higher as the disease tends to be caught at a more advanced stage.
Using Latex breasts with lumps as an aid Pauline teaches girls how to perform a routine monthly check and provides an informative brochure to take home as a reminder for themselves but also to assist in sharing key knowledge of the main symptoms to look out for.
